First Impressions
As previously mentioned on 17th, I went ahead and successfully installed Fedora 9 (Fedora release 9 Sulphur - as it is known as) on my machine. I still have my Windows XP on my C: partition (still vary of Linux!). May be I will fiddle with linux for some time and then decide whether to completely washout Windows. Any suggestions to aid my Linux experience will be appreciated.
The installation process was good. After selecting the desktop system as my system configuration, the packages started installing. 933 packages!!! I was like - OMG! those many? And I thought, only Windows Vista was a bloaty OS!
Approximately 15 minutes later, 932 packages were installed and then came The Boss! Yes, the Linux Kernel : 49 mb large. The message, “Installing 933 of 933 packages : Linux Kernel (49 mb)” flashed on the screen. With bated breath and a revived spirit, I stared at the screen as if I am watching some horrible videos of destruction of the tsunami!
Then something happened and the screen went blank. Blip-bip. The screen was back.
Congratulations the installation was complete! (see pic below)
Yippee! That done, the system asked me to reboot. And there! The beautiful looking desktop is waiting for me…
Another pic when the Fedora OS was loading…
Sorry, for the bad quality of the pics. I only had my Sony Ericsson K510i to capture that!
Will keep posting when I do find some time to write…
Till then By-bye…
